MarkC on UC Microsoft Skype for Business, Lync, Exchange & Everything Else

01-03-2013 Weekly Tech Update

Technical round-up to Friday 1 March 2013.

====
General
Quite a lot out there around Lync and Microsoft UC this week, given that it was the Lync Conference in San Diego last week - the first of many I expect! Sounds like it was a really interesting event, disappointed I couldn’t make it.

Don't forget it's the
UC Expo next week - Tuesday/Wednesday. I'll see some of you there no doubt! Looking forward to it. It's definitely one of the better trade shows and a great place to meet vendors etc. Good link here from Mike England around schedules etc.

It's a massively interesting time for Microsoft UC - it's gaining ground and traction in leaps and bounds. From what I can see the other more traditional vendors just can't keep up! Helps that users love the technology too of course.

Some Blog Stuff
Some of the more interesting/handy stuff from the last week:

Windows 8 ShortCut Keys
Unifed Comms & the importance of design
Technical Writing - It's harder than you think:
Apple TimeMachine - how do you restore hidden files?
Apple OSX - WiFi Diagnostics:
How to get HyperTerminal back on later Windows editions

Lync Goodies
Lots of stuff out this week because of the Lync Conference. An interesting one for you is that at last the
Lync 2013 Planning Tool has arrived! Yay. Also, Cumulative Update 1 for Lync 2013 has also been released. You can read about it over at Justin Morris' blog. interesting one given that there's some very cool additional functionality in the update - it's not just fixes. For example Location Based Routing, and there's additional functionality by way of call pickup. The big thing for me is that Lync 2013 Mobility has arrived!

Lync and the Legacy Providers - interesting response to the Cisco/Avaya Lync spoiler blogs.
Lync 2013 Step by Step Guide. Great little eBook if you're looking to play with Lync 2013.
How to identify/report on Lync Enterprise Voice Users.
